NIKOLAY BERZENOVS CONTRIBUTION TO ETHNOGRAPHY OF OSSETIA

The purpose of article is disclosure of a scientific contribution of the known Georgian publicist of the middle of the XIX century in ethnography of Ossetia. Problem and thematic spheres of ethnographic sketches of N. G. Berzenov were: calendar holidays, funeral and funeral ceremonies, wedding, the customs connected with the birth of the child, hospitality, material and spiritual culture of inhabitants of Digoriya, atalychestvo, questions of management of a community and regulations of the public relations. The author came to a conclusion that N. G. Berzenov introduced into scientific circulation many new ethnographic materials across Ossetia. The author established that N. G. Berzenov in the ethnographic sketches often used materials of oral national creativity the Ossetian. Texts “dedication of a horse to the dead”, a legend about Hetage and his grove were the earliest on time folklore publications. According to the author, N. G. Berzenov’s publications in the Caucasian periodicals had great ethnographic value.
