CONSOLIDATING FUNCTION OF STATE HOLIDAYS IN THE PROCESS OF RUSSIAN IDENTITY APPROVAL IN OSSETIA (SECOND HALF OF XIX – EARLY XX CENTURIES)

Complex political, economic and cultural processes that have affected Ossetia during the second half of XIX – early XX centuries, brought holiday phenomenon to a new level of public concern , making it an effective tool for strengthening Russian statehood in the region. The article deals with the actual problem of Russian identity assertion. The object of investigation is public holidays, the subject – their consolidating function, expressed in national rallying in the implementation of celebrations. Being one of the most important mechanisms of ideological influence and shaping of national and cultural identity, public holidays contributed to social solidarity and ethno-cultural integration. The author emphasizes that the joint participation in the commemoration of important historical events in Russia, promoted awareness of involvement in the fate of the country and acted a guarantee of political, economic, religious and cultural stability in Russian society.
