Доржиева О.В.
The author considered the issues of traditional solution of the food problem of the Buryats; paid significant attention to changes of their food model due to appearance of the Russians in Baikal and Trans-Baikal region, and beginning of ethnic interaction. Changes in the Buryat economy connected with it’s inclusion in economic life of Eastern Siberia were reconstructed on the base of different documentary sources and analyses of historical literature. The article focuses on the fact that joining of Buryatia to Russia led to meeting of two diametrically opposed cultures – settled farmers and nomadic shepherds. Nomadic economy based on the round-year cattle grazing and gradual mastering of all pastures, and farmers were interested in maintaining the fields throughout the year. In Buryatia, Russian agriculture and Buryat animal husbandry became mutually supplementing, stimulating types of economies, giving the opportunity to maximally use of environmental resources of the region.
